Friday Face-Off | Which Witch Is Which?

What better way to start the weekend than with an Epic Battle of Books?! Every friday, different editions of the same book enter the ring *cue Tyra Banks* in the hopes of becoming Friday’s Fancy Front – a.k.a.: the best cover *exit Tyra*
This weekly meme is hosted by Books By Proxy and what better way to celebrate Friday the 13th than by adding a witchy cover to this already awfully unlucky day. Seriously, I am not into superstition of any kind, but when it came to work, I’ve never had a worse day at my current job. Nothing seemed to go right and by the end of the day I was completely frustrated because of everything. But enough about that, let’s take a look at the covers I selected.

Kelley Armstrong’s Women Of The Otherworld was my very first urban fantasy series I started. Note how I say “started” and not “read”, cause even though I started the first book over ten years ago, I have only read six out of thirteen books.
What’s great about this series is how the POV shifts to another woman every other book or so. In the second book, the witch Paige is introduced and in books three and four, she is the main narrator. Industrial Magic is the second book focusing on Paige and that the witch is taking the central stage is obvious from the wiccan cover, at least the first one. That is the very one I own, the one with the naked woman doing a ritual. In all honesty, I think that my cover is ugly – but then again, it is an American mass market edition. I very much prefer the two black covers and the smokey one over the weird chesslegs at that.
I really loved the books I’ve read so far, but I think this series is getting some really unfortunate covers to work with. At least the cheaper editions. Also, this series has changed covers so much over the course of its run, it’s insane. Hell, even the mass market editions have changed covers more than once and even the dimensions of the book have changed from the norman 178mm for a mmpb to this weird, elongated paperback. Anyway, great books, less great covers unless you go for the more stylish blacksies. I don’t have a strong opinion on the UK mass market editions. I kind of like the style, but that’s all.
