Top 5 Wednesday | Shake that badass

Every Wednesday, people from all over the bookish world gather ’round to share their top 5 lists concerning whatever theme that week. All under the watchful eye of the Mother of all Top5’s, Lainey.
This week, it’s all about the badasses in our story. When I saw this topic, I thought it would be fairly easy. Wrong there, it turned out to be pretty hard to figure out which characters I considered to be a ‘badass’ without turning to the usual suspects. But here we are, wednesday, and brace yourselves, cause there is some badassery coming your way!

5. Kelsier (Brandon Sanderson, Mistborn)
When thinking of badass characters, I immediately thought of Kelsier. As a powerful Mistborn, he does the coolest things with his powers and is the perfect mentor for Vin. His attitude is also the best, part I-don’t-give-a-** and the other part of him kind of protective. And let’s be honest, if you run a band of Mistings, you’re a badass by definition.

4. Arya Stark (George R.R. Martin, A Song Of Ice And Fire)
Do I really have to explain why Arya Stark is a badass? Going from the endearing tomboy to whatever she is now, Arya went through hell and back and it just made her stronger. Having taken the advice to stick ’em with the pointy end by heart, Arya has become this great little devil. I can definitely see her becoming Dany’s royal assassin after she takes the Iron Throne.

3. Harry Dresden (Jim Butcher, The Dresden Files)
Harry took some time to get his status as a badass, but he got there eventually. With his long leather duster, wooden staff and brazen attitude, I liked him as a character, but at the start of the series, his character is very much flawed. Now, eleven books in, he is still flawed, but the biggest creases have gotten ironed out and now he’s a very cool and very human protagonist. To summarise his character growth: from douche to badass in eleven books or less.

2. Celaena Sardothien (Sarah J. Maas, Throne Of Glass)
I had my doubts after the first book, I was more certain of my case after the second, but the third book in the Throne of Glass series really cemented Celaena as a really badass character. She has issues, and she struggles with them, but much like Harry Dresden, it’s the struggles that make her human. Combined with her skills as an assassin and all that’s to come, and she’s a recipe for badassery.

1. Jenks (Kim Harrison, The Hollows)
Perhaps the tiniest badass in all the top 5’s this week, but Jenks is the definition of badass. With his toothpick-sword, silk little trousers and bandana and his Peter Pan-pose, when he gets ready for battle he is as badass as you can get. His foul mouth and great sense of humour are the cherry on top.

So there you have it, five characters that would hand you your bum on a plate. Have you ever come across any of these and did they come across as a badass to you as well? Which characters are your ultimate badasses? Comment away!
